The Airbus A300 set numerous records for pioneering different aspects such as being the first wide-body airliner powered by twin engines, the first commercial aircraft to be constructed of composite materials, and the first aircraft to use the center-of-gravity control.  It also boasts its high performance and was carefully crafted with safety standards which made it the first Extended Operations (ETOPS) compliant aircraft in 1977.

The Airbus A300B1 was a prototype version of the A300 wide-body airliner. There were only two units built for this version. The F-WUAB, re-registered F-OCAZ was the first prototype, while the F-WUAC was the second prototype. In November 1974, the F-WUAC was rented by the Trans European Airways (TEA) and was then re-registered as OO-TEF. The Trans European Airways immediately subleased the prototype to Air Algerie in six weeks but still kept on operating the type as late as 1990. The Trans European Airways could accommodate three hundred passengers in flight while the Air Algerie could seat up to three hundred and twenty-three passengers.

The aircraft had an external length of 51 meters which was five frames smaller compared to the newer production variants. It had an external height of 7.71 meters, a tail height of 16.67 meters, and a fuselage diameter of 5.6 meters. The cabin height is 2.48 meters, the cabin length is 36 meters, and the cabin width is 5.13 meters.

The A300B1 was powered by a twin CF6-50A engines from General Electric. It is a dual rotor, axial flow, high-bypass ratio turbofan engine with an annular combustor. It has a fan and 3 LP, and fourteen HP compressor, and two HP and 4 LP turbine. Each engine produces a maximum takeoff thrust of 48,000 to 50,000 lbf. The aircraft has a maximum cruise speed of 345 knots and a travel range of 1,850 nautical miles. It can fly up to 35,000 feet and can climb at a rate of 3,000 feet per minute.

The maximum takeoff and landing weights are 132000 kg and 122,000 kg, respectively.
